alpha drive question( please help)
broke my alpha drive yesterday cracked the lower case ,was running somehow case cracked all the oil came out then she seized up, do you think the upper part could still be ok or is it wasted to because of the water?also it is a 1.84 drive with a 4.3 motor,i can get a drive but it is a 1.98 what diff will it make ,also does anybody have any alpha's for sale or know where to get one ..please help ...lost my job now my drive blew ...i think i might just sit in the house...lol
thanks, raven |
The 1:98 reduction ratio drive
is used on the 120/140 hp four cylinder engines. The vertical drive shaft rotates slower, thus water pump output in the drive is less, I don't know if that may cause any problems, If you do change it, you probably have to go up a size in props. my.02 jt |
"SOMEHOW" the case cracked??!!?? I think, guessing from your geological location, that probably there might have been a bit of water in the gearcase last winter and it did it's "water to ice" thing and caused a crack that became more apparent when you ran it. Since the upper end is always out of oil before the lower, I would say that you need to go through the whole thing now if you want a good summer. Get to work!! --- Jer

Call a Jasper dealer. They will want your old one for trade (the upper anyway, probably not the cracked lower). If you need to talk to a Jasper dealer, call my friend Jay at East Beltline Towing. He has helped several of my friends (some of them OSO members) get drives. Jay is an OSO member by the way, Apache Kid.
Number at work for him is: 616-942-5210 or try 616-942-5239 Ask for Jay Vander Woode. |
