alpha gear ratio ?

if I have a 1.84 drive and use the lower section of a 1.98 drive is my ratio still 1.84 ? I heard the gearing is in the top and if i use the lower it will be the same as my 1.84 is this true?:confused:

the gear ratio in an alpha drive is changed in the upper.the lowers are all the same
