burning clutches?

i have a omc king cobra outdrive. i was having shifting problems with it. i now know why i was having shifting problems. i have a burned out clutch. now my problem is, i just replaced the clutch last year at the end of the season. the clutch only has about ten hours on it. why am i burning up clutches. the outdrive is a 1990 with a cone clutch. if anyone has any clue of why i burned up this clutch so fast please let me know so i can put this boat in the water.

sticky or misadjusted shift cable or linkage?
using cheap gear lube?
didn't get all the nast flushed out of the gearcase from the first clutch failure?

Re: burning clutches?

I heard that with the OMC outdrive, if you do not use 100% synthetic gear oil, you may create a problem.
