My Dilema
My engine calls for 16 degree idle timing. The only aftermarlet bolt on pointer that I can find for a 8 in. damper only has 4 degrees adjustment:( How do I get around this problem?
Can I use that stick on tape on the damper?? |
Damper measure..
THRILLSEEKER ,
If you had to I guess you could measure the 4 degree's. Measure from 0 to 4 and see what it is then multiply it by 4 to get 16. Then go back and measure the number you get from the 0 mark. That should give you the 16 degree's you are looking for. You are also right, a timing tyape will work as well. Instead of installing the tape on the damper, which most come off, just use the tape to mark the damper at the 16 mark. Pwrbt33 |
Set your timing with an adjustable advance timing light.Set the light to 16*and then line up the O on the pointer with the TDC mark on your balancer

I tried the adjustable timing lite & I threw it away after I used it twice. The one I had after I adjusted the lite for the amount of advance & would look back at mark it had moved. Either from laying down or brushing up against something I would move the setting. I figured it was cheaper to throw away then to mess up motor.
As PW said, buy the tape, just take it & mark the damper at the 16 mark. Then when you put timing lite on it you just need to adjust for the "0" mark |
