Merc Plastic Dip sticks?

Dang they suck!!!! I cant get a good read to save my a$$! With my persistant oil leak problem its rather important. I cant find a metal one long enough, I've even bored some small holes in my plastic one hoping that it would help me get o good read ...no luck any idea's????
