502.... max rpms?
 

My engine has the stock bottom end , dart heads , intake , 800 holley , hyd cam , roller rockers. The shop that did my cam change told me the porting work that had been done when the engine was 1st modded look real good. The new cam shows a hp/rpm range of 3000-6500. My question is , the shop says I should be good to go up to 5800ish. What do you guys think the stk bottom end is good to? Mine is the carb version , no rev limiter. Thanks sj

Bottom end should hold up fine at 5800rpms. I was turning my 454 mag to 5500 with no issues and the bottom end had 450 hrs on it.

I would do some prop testing and see where you like it. With your cam, you may need to spin it that fast to get into the max torque range.

Yea ... thats what i was thinking too. the current mir 23 with 1:36s maxed out at 5200 at 73 mph. Im really hoping to see a good increase in top end with the new valve train. Not like last year when i spent 2 days [the hottest days of the year !!] installing gil exhaust in place of the stockers and gained a whole 1 mph !.
