Bound up shift linkage
Shift linkage is bound in my '89 Bravo. All cables are free. Tore drive off and out poured this rusty soup from the shift linkage cavity. Evidently, the oring between the drive and bell housing was leaking and the linkage within the drive rusted tight over the winter.
Taking the drive to a shop for repairs. Read my service manual, looks like a little more than I want to tackle. Anybody seen this problem before? Is the repair expesive? Does not look like the clutch/gear mechanism is the problem. Rather, it appears the shift rod/cam/linkage is probably siezed up. Any comments? |
HUH !!
ThirdBird ,
Also make sure that you check the shift cable as it comes through the bell housing. Alot of times the flat gasket washer that seals the shift cable to the bell housing will leak water between the two. Simple solution is to remove the nut on the end of the cable, pull it out gently, add alittle ultra black sealer and reinstall. Tighten nut securely. Not saying thats whats leaking but is a famous place. Pwrbt33 Offshore Performance 1-877-GOFAST1 |
