Fuel pumps???

anyone know if carter marine mech. fuel pumps will provide enough fuel for holley 850 double pumpers, the motors are merc 420's built to 510 hp ..... can't find the gph rating on these anywhere...... Or is there somthing else you might recomend??

KCHOTBOAT 06-18-2003 09:11 AM

The carter hv pumps 120gph 6-8 psi. I used it on my 540 with a 950 holley. I know several people that run them on there blower motors.

where might i find these carter hv pumps ??

Try here. You didn't say whether they were on your blocks or sea water pumps. The levers are different.

I had no problems with my 1050 Dominator.

Merc uses the stock carter on the 525SC to feed a 1050. Same part# for my 454 mags or for 525SC.

thx

Got the Carters on my 540's with 1050 Dominators and FP guages on the dash...Pressure never varies from idle to WOT. Except once when something was stuck in the needle and not sealing and at an idle it was down about 1 lb and pulsing with each pump of the diaphragm:rolleyes: . Meantime I'm dumping gas down the back barrels:(

Any car parts store has the same ones Cp Performance sells at twice the money. What you do is use the top part of the Merc pump and replace the bottom with the Carter HV. This is the same thing CP sells you.

KCHOTBOAT,

Do the car parts stores sell the Carter pumps with -10 inlets and a -8 outlets? Do you know if they have the 3 or 5 internal valves?

Carter Fuel Pumps

Hey Guys...

Just curious if you might have a Carter part number or cross reference application wise for the pumps or lower assembly used on sea pump applicatons... I am also very tired of them leaking into the oil reservoir in less than a year... Yea, I did buy Holley electric pumps to installl, however, with other projects I am about ready to hit the wall relative to running out of time and not having the boat in the water yet...

Thanks, Karl

Carter # M61045...#10 in , # 8 out. Available from NAPA auto stores.
Not sure of the # of internal valves. I have a spare ...Leave me take it apart....."I'll be back"

mopower 06-19-2003 09:03 AM

OK, I'm back. Three valves. But they keep my 540's happy:D

rbtnt 06-19-2003 09:17 AM

Thanks for the part number.

The pumps from CV, not CP, have 5 valves in case you need more flow. The CV pumps are quite expensive. Their site is www.cvproducts.com

Looks like the one from NAPA will work fine for XCAV8's application.

Carter Fuel Pumps

Thanks very much for the PN... I only have 525 SC's but they have been able to keep the Dominator bowls full so far... In the event anyone is going to go electric, there is a guy who sells Holley factory rebuilds at about half the price of new... I bought four Holley Red pumps and they are as new... Just yell if you need the number... Thanks again, Karl

Glenn,

The Holley pumps came from Bates Performance in Texas. The e-mail address is [email protected] and the guys name is Brandon Bates. His telephone number is 254-867-9274. I purchased Holley Marine Red Pumps and they are as brand new. Any questions just give a yell.

Thanks, Karl
