water pickup for inter cooler
what is the best water pickup for a small inter cooler. Also where should it be mounted. This is for a single engine boat. currently i am using a pickup similar to that on a drive shower but larger mounted on the cavitation plate. It is working fine until WOT. at 4700 rpm I get 8 psi but at 5200 I get 0 psi.

Sounds like it's coming out of the water. Either longer pickup or move it to the bottom of the transom. That's where mine is.

Imco makes one that has an adjustable cutting edge. It looks very simular to the Stainless Marine pickup. You need the adjustable edge to dial in the pressure.

iTS BEST TO HAVE THE SAME OR MORE WATER PRESSURE IN THE INTERCOOLER AS BOOST LEVEL AND i PUT THEM ON THE TRANSOM FROM STAINLESS MARINE AND TRIM THEM :)

What's everybody's opinion about a separate pickup for the intercooler vs. teeing in after the sea water pump?

Why drag something else thru the water?

I'm told that the standard pickup isn't capable of supplying enough water to both the engine and the cooler. You also want the cooler to not receive water when off plane. If prevent a vaccume break, it would have to be teed in after the water pump, so the cooler would always see water.

I run all the water from sea water pump thru oil cooler then thru intercooler.

I would think the results would be better with a seperate pick-up or atleast pick it up before the oil cooler. Hotboats pick up is also runing on the right side of the cav plate w/ a right hand prop (drive shower is on left). I thought there might be a problem when it was being hooked up. I would go with the transom mount. |
