Opinions?

O.K. I smoked my motor last weekend so I'm building a new bbc for my excalibur. 454 and I want to use the weiand 177 I have sitting in the garage so The question is what cam do you guys suggest. I'm going with a Steel crank, steel Manley rods, Wiseco or Keith Black forged pistons. (not blowing the bottom end again.):D I know I should run a bigger blower but I have this one and am not loking for alot of boost but want the motor to handle it if I change my mind and upgrade My only concern is being more of a car engine builtder than a boat I am not well versed in reversion problems with certain cams
BTW I am running gil dry pipes, if that matters.
Thanks in advance
Martin.

Are you planning on running it as a 454 or are you going bigger? If so what compression are you planning on running?

454 prolly 9.0-9.5

9.5 with a blower? Your not going to run much boost then are you?

My suggestion would be if you are going to build a blower motor, build a true blower motor with low cr. If you want to build a n/a motor, then go with higher cr. That in between 9 or 9.5 will only aggrivate you if you end up wanting to run a bigger blower or more boost and can only tease it with 3 psi because the cr is too high.

Put some 8 or 8.5 pistons in it for future use and piece of mind.

YOu'll probably get alot of guys suggestion a Crane 731 Hydro roller with a 454/177. That or a Crane 741. Need to keep that cr down though or you will have to find a cam that will help bleed off some cylinder pressure.

My .02, plenty of other more knowledgable guys on here....;)

Goodluck, have fun
