Before doing anything, exhaust the warranty option. Drives = $$ Otherwise, simply removing the drive (six nuts) would make a quick determination of the problem.

The more I think about this, the more I believe something just made the engine die. Hope it is ignition.

I service the hell out of this boat and will be disappointed if it is something major.

Thanks for all the comments.

Stupid question here but is the belt off the fuel pump/water pump?

Not a stupid question at all.

I was just out getting lunch and thought of the exact same thing. I am 99% sure it is still on but need to double check.

Thanks

If it was a belt you would of probably overheated first, it happened to me this weekend. First I thought it was a bad impeller and overheated, but then once it cooled it would not start, it was a thrown belt.

Should of checked the obvious first. I think if your drive was blown you motor would still run fine, evey time i blow a drive it sounds really bad but the motor continues to run.

The drive is stuck in forward and would not come out. I cannot turn the prop.

Could the engine have just stalled for some reason and it is just stuck in drive?

The drive is locked in gear, something internal in the drive broke and locked the gears. The motor was stalled when it could no longer turn the drive. No motor can run unless the flywheel can turn. Take the drive off and the motor will turn again. Try to turn the drive while it is off and it will be jammed.

Bummer Good Luck!

Jersey Tom & Makdaddy,

Looks like you guys are the winner.

Pulled the drive off and the motor turns over fine and does not make any funny noises.

The drive is locked up. I cannot move the shift lever (for lack of better terms), and cannot turn either shaft.

Before removing it I open the side vent plug and the fluid looked great. Then I open the lower drain plug and there was a lot of VERY small metal almost brass looking particals.

This is the port side which runs in reverse and I have always heard they are the easiest to break.

I have it in the back of the truck and plan to take it to someone in the know tomorrow.

Thanks everyone, I will keep you posted.

I am curious as to how many hours were on the drive, and what they find.
Please let us know.

PS I would be suspect of the coupler as well. even though the engine sounds fine. just a thought.
Greg

Mak,

Thanks for the heads up on the coupler. I will check into that as well.

The drives have 130 hours on them. The fluid has been changed three times and the last two times I have added synthetic drive fluid.

If I remember correctly, your boat is equipped with 500EFI's. Are the drives XR's, XZ's or standard Bravo's ? I am also curious what the failure was in the drive and the drive serial number if you have it.:) :)

Sorry to hear about the drive:( I hope they get you up and running quickly.:p
