house boat steering cable broke
 

Does anyone know of a good place to purchase a 50ft 6inch steering cable? I also need a rack with it mine seized up and broke some teeth off the rack.

Contact Teleflex directly, then order through West Marine. Last year we replaced a 45 ft. long cable this way. We eventually talked directly with Teleflex engineering to get this done. Initially, we were told that Teleflex/Morse no longer maunufactured cables over 30ft. After MANY discussions we had a new cable. Your new cable will come with a rack, however; depending on the age of your boat the tapered steering shaft will be a different size forcing you to buy a new wheel as well. The new rack will require a new mounting too. It turned out to be alot more work than first expected (just replace the cable and be done) but our boat steers 200% better as a result of the new technology in the rack and cable. Good Luck.
