Well I went out and re-torque'd the c-clamp and tightened the steering lever nut/bolt and almost all of the slop disappeared. There's probably 1/2" of play left and I probably could torque a little extra to take that out. I'll re-check after next use. I will still eventually have the gimbal worked, but now it's not so urgent as originally thought and I've bought some time to carry me over thru the next couple of local events.

Does anybody know if the previous post on this apply to TRS? I seem sto have a little bit more slop than I would like....and the handling feels like its starting to get squirrley at above 68 mph....

formulaF302 I didn't pay it any mind until after discovering the slop but I was experiencing a little more "waffling" both in the no-wake zone and my last run offshore. I'm just glad I caught it when I did.....

The TRS is a much more solid gimbal and ring. There were 3 designs to the upper swivel pin. The splined version has an allen head bolt that holds it in place as well as a plug in the bottom of the swivel pin. These almost NEVER fail. In fact, they can be almost impossible to disassemble. The square pin on the later TRS have a U bolt that tightens the ring around the pin. These can loosen, although I've never seen one round out like a bravo does. Try tightening it if you have this style. The steering arm end of the pin can be splined or square too. Again, the earlier splined very rarely loosen. You can probably check that for play by looking through the transom cutout. I would check the steering cable as the most likely source. Gary |
