Blower Cam ? regarding #'s
 
Friend of mine has two 588's with 14-71's

One was freshend on the top end to a full roller cam
and the other still has solid roller cam.

These are supposed to be making 925 hp with 3 lbs of boost.

Just pulled the cam out of the one with the solid roller and it
reads:

TR-258-4167 which we can't find reference to.

The 8 looks like it was ground in with a pencil grinder
which means it could have possibly have been a
6 before.

TR-256-4167 ? could possibly be the the number?

Can this be used to reference a new roller cam?
Or do we need to tear the good engine down
to get the cam info?

Who has the best Roller cam, springs etc going?
This is for 95% pleasure use.

if you want them to match you have to for sure get the numbers
off the good cam ,, Isky makes the best tool room valve springs or vasco jets if you want to spend more but I use the tool room ((TOOL STEEL ))as they are called and love them ,,they have by far the best lifters also but their cams are 60's design ,I get them to make custom cams for me and their great sooo use Isky springs,lifters,retainers,and locks and I like ultra dyne cams if I go with someone elses recomendation ,,
Thats unreal power at 3 pound of boost ,PM, me if I can help

What kind of life are you getting out of the valve train
with each comination Isky ?
Ultra dyne?

This is getting away from the solid roller right????
And going to Hyd. Roller??

Can you define the difference of tool room steel Vs.
what you feel every one alse may be using?

And what is the advantage of it?

What would cause the bolts on the cam gear to break?
And how common is this?

the life depends on lift ect of cam
if you use tool steel springs and a cam with good profile the valve train should last 250 hrs easy with a solid and much more with a hyd.
there are so many varaibles it is hard to pin it down ,

the tool steel is a much better more forgiving metal than a stock spring by far
get the cam numbers off the other cam and I'll save you some money on the parts if needed ,,then we will have a matching pair

not very common at all most I've seen the bolts were loose to begin with or thrust was way off



If you are going to use low #3 lbs of boost ect you need to get the right cam for that

That is the cam they come with, sounds like your not
found of it.

What are you suggesting?

Last night, found out the cam is siezed, looks like a lube
problem which could cause the bolts to break!

well if its seized its really not common !! boy have you got a clean up job ahead ,give me the cam number if you have it ,I'll try and help
