Oil filter question

I change my own oil and oil filter on my 496mag. I use the Purolator Pure One: PL34631 filter. The two time that I had the deal change the oil they used the Quicksilver oil filter.

When changing the oil the Quicksilver oil filter is always full of oil (can be messy when changing). with the Purolator filter all the oil drains out of the filter and back into the pain.

My question is this: Is this a bad thing? Is all the dirt draining back into the pan every time I shut down the motor ant than being sucked back up through the motor at startup?

no the dirt will stay in the filter but you need to run a filter with a bypass valve to keep this from happing as when it starts its dry unmtil the filter fills up again ,I don't like upside down filters ,,,just me ,but I don't

AC-PF 1218. I dont like upside down filters either but I didnt have a choice right now until I change some things.

The only time I don't have oil pressure is the first start after changing the oil, crank it over and for about 4 second no oil pressure then gauge rises to 40-45.

So only use a filter with the by-pass valve to keep oil in the filter.
Makes changing the filter a little messy, but well worth it.

Do you put any oil into your new filter before mounting them, kind of like pre-charging the filter?

FYI..The Hastings LF279 also has the valve in it....

Yes thats the way to start one I do pre charge the filter when ever I can as dry starts hurt !

I'm not a big hastings fan in the buss. down here they are not considered good filters and are very cheap !!!!
A/C,,fram, and I ( I ) feel mobile 1 is the best all around ,but thats all up for debate .:D :D

I think I heard that WIX/NAPA GOLD filters also have the check valves in them also! That's what I use.

I use NAPA Gold 1060s - mine mount upside down. I'm not sure if they have the check valve in them???
