Twin 502 Mag MPI

A quart per engine every 5-8 Hours, RPM all over the map!

I found that the half quart from full to half went very fast. From half to add it took much longer. I did try the 40 wt. Valvoline and it did not burn as much but I am sticking with the 20-50 Mobil 1. I think that operating temp has a lot to do with it.

How much oil 502's

To cruise a Formula 400 @ over 40 mph probably takes a reasonably high RPM. My experience has always been that the higher the RPM, the higher the oil use. I cruise at 3500 @ 52 MPH and seldom if ever add oil. I use Mobil One 15-50 and keep it very fresh with 25 hr change intervals.

I use to burn about a quart every 5-10 hrs or so, But now with ever oil change, I throw in a quart of Vaseline.:D:D

Just kidding guys, Don't throw Vaseline in your engine...:):)

I used to use a quart in 8-10 hours with Castrol 20 - 50 dino. I switched to castrol Syntec 20 - 50. Don't have much time on her yet but seems better. Also gained 200 RPM on both engines (in both directions).

I noticed when I run the Valvoline VR-40 I do burn less oil

IMOA if you change oil brands or type ((like going to syn.)) sometimetimes the new additive package will cause the motor to use oil a short time then stop ,Syn. is better at lasting as its harder to burn and ron above is right forged piston motors are prone to us alittle oil . J&E piston that come in 502's use a tighter clerance and thats a big reason Merc uses them they really make a good part ( thats why most cup teams run the J&E's is the clearance issue, tight and very tough ))
See Ya
