a good prop for a pig scarab 28'

I'm having a hard time finding a prop that gives me speed and rpm the slug is a 1988 28' scarab excel before messing with the bravo drive, rpm's were 5400 with a 23p mirage I put on an Imco 2" shortie but now cavitate badly with the mirage. I tried a 4 blade Powertech 25p rpm is high 3's and a 23p powertech 4 blade at 4200 rpm speed is unknown but it doesn't seem anything near 70 my gps crapped out. Boat has somewhere around 500-550 hp. Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated

I have a like new Bravo 1 4 blade 22p RH if interested. I ran it 4 times and the boats simply prefers the Mirage. A buddy of mine is trying it but if he's not interested $350

Which Powertech props did you try? The OFS4, SFS4 or one of thier other ones.

Your Mirage has been rendered almost useless with the 2" shorter lower unit, especially if it was an old Mirage and not a Mirage Plus. You will need a 4 blade prop to get acceptable performance from your boat.

A good starting point would be a 24 Bravo 1 if your old prop was a Mirage Plus and a 22 Bravo 1 if your old prop was a Mirage. If you tried a Powertech OFS4 25p it would be equal to about a 27 pitch Bravo 1. Thats why you were not able to turn it.

We have test props that can be checked out. That way you can try a prop and make sure it does what you want it to prior to making a purchase.

As a ref. point, I'm running a 26 Bravo one with a procharger.
It's running 71mph at 5500 RPM. (Bravo outdrive)

you are all looking at the Wong prop for that boat. I ran over a dozen props on that hull . Bravo 1 and hydro-motive all create to much stern lift. With the boat as long as it is for a single engine boat It cant hold the bow up with those props. This hull is a pad bottom. The pad will do the work to lift the stern . if you use a prop that creates stern lift all you are doing is keeping the bow low. The boat will ride with to much hull in the water and creating a much higher slip factor. If the boat sticks like glue to the water and don't like to fly off of a wake then thats your problem. You need a 4 blade prop that will give you bow lift. this will allow the pad in the hull to do its job an lift the stern. The boat will run much lighter and a bit looser but much more efficient on speed. You wont feel like you might stuff the hull if you hit Wong.

I use to have a 485hp motor and was running a 23 mirage 3 blade. it was reving at 5400 I also got the exact same results as you with the 23 power tech. so I would say that you have about the same HP I did . If you are going to run a power tech you need to run a 21 power tech to get 5000 rpm's but don't look for 70 mph.

28 Scarab sorry to say, you should be running much faster. Change that prop.
