Ultra black on intake manifold or not?
One mechanic tells me yeah, use it, another one tells me no, use the gaskets dry.......WTF? I put sealer on everything. why would intake be any different. unless the guy was reffering to the rubber end gaskets which I dont use anyway:confused:

I would use a small bead around the water passages, at each end of the manifold where the manifold meets the block, and in the corners where the manifold, block, and head meet.
I used the Red High Temp RTV because that's what I had in stock. No problems! |
I can only assume its going back together? What did you/they find wrong?
|
use it! milky oil sucks!!!!!!if you use Merlin Heads seal the second bolt from the front on the right side and the second bolt from the back on the left side. Those two holes go through to the water jackets.

I use it around the water ports and a 1/4" bead at each end rail. I also use thread sealer on the bolts. Ultra Black

Scott, intake valves were "sucked"and a few exhaust valves were also warped from heat. The best explanation that I can come up with (with some help from a mechanic friend) is that I had an intake manifold leak which leaned out the mix to the point of burning the valves.:( although, I cant figure out how the manifold would have leaked, I used plenty of sealer on both sides of the gaskets and on the ends. Possibly leaked through a bolt hole:confused:
