Moore Performance

Ok you gear heads, I am starting a mail order business selling marine engine parts. I need some input on the things you are having trouble finding locally. Water pumps? High performance spark plugs? Carb Kits? Water Fuel Separators? Let me know what I should be thinking about.
Sincerely
Dennis Moore

Uhm. Could be a section regarding good books for using with our guinea pigs (yep, those rare breed of people known as "Weekend gearheads") :D

Paypal payment for the books could be a blast. Keep us informed

Dennis Moore 07-26-2003 03:20 PM

Pay Pal, hadn't thought of that yet. Thanks!

That special blend of boat gas,,,,,,you know, the stuff that's 200 octane, smell really cool, and only costs $0.59 a gallon,,,,,,,,,,

Cord 07-26-2003 08:31 PM

Yea, the right plugs! The local shop sells the same ones for V-6's, small and large 8's and both street and marine! It would be really grand if you could find some marine platinum tipped plugs.

Fred's got a good idea with the kits. You buy the parts and provide a kit that will take a worn out 330 to 600hp! ;) Turn key is the key item behind the kits. You shouldn't have to buy anything.

The world still needs a good prop exchange site.

Wildfire 07-26-2003 09:03 PM

I'll need one of those 330 to 600 kits for a Gen V. Could you get the price under a grand too?

Dennis Moore 07-26-2003 10:16 PM

Thanks

Would anybody be interested in custom made spark plug wire kits that are made to customer specs?

I sincerely think you need to start off with a knowledgeable sales staff other than yourself.
As an example, C/P Performance has got a great catalog and quite a knowledgeable sales staff.
I'm sure you will do well, people do get a lot of enjoyment, working on their boats, but get real annoyed when they cannot locate parts or get technical information for their particular application.
Good Luck
Brian

CP's got a nice setup, but their website absolutly SUCKS! You can't find anything! Even if you have the part number!

Alot of people would like to have a premade plug wires. Personally, I've always made mine because I'm just a touch too anal.

We need to start a prop club. It costs $150 to join and for $16 (shippng fee) each you can try as many props as you want. If you damage it, you pay the manufacturer to repair it to original specs. Ok, who's in?

Dennis,

Just go through your book and stock the things you recommend in there. It was a great starting point for me years ago.

I vote for the prop club idea big time....thats a major problem for all of us and an expensive proposition to make the wrong guess on. Your information is invaluable...I will be buying your book soon just to give you financial support for all the free information you've given us all on this board... thanks... Glenn

Rigging stuff, there doesn't seem to be a one-stop-shop for marine quality clamps, ties, connectors, fittings and brackets.

The custom-made plug wires are a great idea Dennis. I bought a set of MSD 8.5 mm Super-Conductors (pre-made) for my 454 from CP ($80) a couple weeks ago. They were the ONLY set I could find already made, for my Mercruiser big-block. They fit perfect, but not very crazy about the RED color. Yellow or purple would go with my engine scheme better. I just didn`t want to build my own...........

Other ideas:
A performance "upgrade" kit (cam, intake, etc...) would be nice. Ignition upgrade kit......
Manifolds/headers at good prices!
