Hyd Roller Lifters
1 Attachment(s)
Well I was lucky it looks like no major block damage. If I have the lifter bores bushed what kind of hours can someone expect before replacing hydraulic roller lifters. Will solid rollers last any longer. Have a little over 100hrs on these. Crane cam 630 lift. 5600rpm max. Very frustating and flat tappets are looking pretty good right about now.

The problems with solid roller lifters will most likely SOAR over the hydraulic rollers. Solid rollers will make more power over a hydraulic roller but they have too much spring pressures which is very hard on parts and they wear/break more than you'd most likely care to mess with.
If you're still thinking of replacing the hyd rollers, the flat tappet mechanical solid lifters will probably be the closest thing to the kind of power you were getting from the hyd rollers-------but you will STILL have to do the periodic valve adjustment thing! Having the lifter bores bushed is probably a good idea as you may have to just to be able to use the block again. I would think you'd get more life out of the lifters by having them bushed. |
I just went through the same headache
I`m going with Isky this time around. What brand are yours? |

Just have to find a way to make this thing last. :hothead: Wonder how many hrs the Isky lifter wil run? Thanks for info guys I know I am not the only one going down this road. |
Budah, is that a good cam for a 540 that will be spun to 5600 now and then.
|
Jack, Is that a solid roller cam you're talking about?
|
So if I pull out my crane roller lifters can I just install the isky or do I need to change the cam as well?
|
Mr velocity we put a 741 in a 280 velocity 496 inch with a blower (7 pounds boost)and old brodix heads and ran at 100 this past week-end FYI [/B][/QUOTE]
Jack if you are talking about mine, I don't know about 100, but it did turn a 30 pitch Bravo1 prop 5800 with 4.25 people and 3/4 tank of fuel.:D |
10lbs. and a nose cone who knows what may happen. And by the way welcome back:cool:

Budah (Springs)
What springs would you reccomend with the solid roller cam you are reccomending. I can handle adjusting valves every 40 or 50 hrs if it will live. Beats a full rebuild or more every 120 when they break. :hothead:
Anyone running Shubeck (spelling?) treated solid flat tappet lifters? I know one of you are running the radius lifters but I was told by a pretty rebuitable source that I would not give up much with Schubeck solid lifters and they would outlast anything made? I know I will be running much lower lift than some. |
I'm running Crane 99895 springs with Crane rollers on a 139641 cam. The engines have about 100 hours on them and based on this thread I was thinking I may replace the lifters with Isky or Jesel. Should I just bite the bullet and put a new cam in, I could probably use a little more cam, do the lifters and springs. Might as well to do the rockers too, they're Crane golds. I spin the up to 5600 rather routinely.
The 280 aka 26 Velocity is a great runner. It is however a drivers boat and a good driver that is able to keep the boat on the pad can get more out of it then someone that just sits there. Jack, thanks for your help, nice to have you back!!! |
Vel Mark thats awwesome! How many cubes? And how big are those heads? My 502 stock block Brodix320 heads and a 741 with 7# ran 94 and then the hatch ejected and I stopped! The Velocity is the hull I wanted, but have an Eliminator 25. Any details would be great. Thanks Greg

I would be looking at springs as a bare minimum. I had the comp 929 springs and they are down about 15lbs at seat from new. I am still not sure why my lifter broke but I have to agree with Budah on springs. If I go back with hyd roller it will have the best springs I can get. All the other lifters look great and no binding I can find to cause problem.
