Oil Pump Pickup Removal

I'm changing my oil pan and need to change pump pickups. How do I remove the old pickup from the pump? I haven't tried yet but I expect it's a pretty tight fit.

It should come off if you have a vise to hold the tube in. Just twist. It may or (should) have a tack weld that will need ground or cut with a cut wheel first. Make sure you tack weld the pickup back on the new pump. You can replace the pickup with a new one if you have to they are not to much $$. This is a BBC.

Remove the bolt holding the bracket on if it has one and twist it off. If its hard heat it up and it slides right off. An old trick was to braze it to the pump...hope your wasnt.

Dan's right on welding is old school but it works. ;) My 502 did not have a bracket. I made one and installed last time I had it down. Not to often but I have heard of oil pickups falling off!. Your after market pan probably has a pickup bracket. If not I would install one or tack weld the pick up on but that is just me. :D
