Dual battery installation.

I now this topic has been touched on about a thousand times. But it matters more this time because it's me. :D

Putting dual Optimas in the Scarab tomorrow night. Make sure I have this right.

Hot from both batteries go to selector switch, one on each post from switch. Hot from alternator goes to common on switch. Ground from motor to one battery and then jumper a ground from that batter to second one.

Yes or no?

No, you need two switches if you have two batteries and two motors. Then alt from port motor goes to port battery and alt from starboard motor to starboard battery. If you only use one switch then when you are running on Batt 1 only batt 1 will charge.

I hate to disagree... but, I have had two Formula's from the factory with dual batteries, both with ONE switch. It is true however, that if batt 1 is selected it will only charge batt 1. That is why when running, you should have the selector in "ALL" position. I only use the 1 or 2 selector if one battery is discharged to get the strongest to start the engines, then switch to the weak battery to charge it up first.
The selector switch must be one that aloows switching when charging or it can damage an alternator. Most switches made now days do allow switching.
You are good to go now!!
