400 hp efi small blocks??

I'm looking at powering a boat with twin SBCs, could Whipple a Merc mag motor with bigger pan and coolers but before I do I thought I'd check if there was a N/A option that's competitive pricewise, efi is a must have and I'd like to make 400 at the crank, a little more is ok:D

Aside from getting Dennis' book and making one myself, does anyone offer any feasible package motors.

I can get into Whippled 350 mags for about 10-11k each.

400hp is no problem for a normally aspirated SBC, I got over 400hp out of mine with a carb and a somewhat mild cam and I spent less than $4k including dyno time. You should be able to find a new short or long block on the cheap to fit your needs.

Check with nautical illusions here on the board. He has twin 400 horse sbc's in his 30 Velocity. I'm pretty sure they are N/A.

GM Performance Parts is coming out with a new 383ci/425hp small block crate motor.
Brass core plugs are installed, cam is perfect for marine application per Dennis Moore's book. Intake, fuel system and ignition not included.
See description below.

12498772 - GM Performance ZZ383, 383cid/425hp Performance Crate Engine 12498772

Detailed Description
The all new ZZ383 offers Big Block performance with a Small Block price tag. GMPP starts with the legendary Fast Burn cylinder heads and 383cid, to offer an incredible 460 ft. lbs. of torque @ 4500 rpm with a smooth, linier delivery. The combination of a 3.800” steel crank and a stout .509/.528 lift hydraulic roller camshaft produces 425hp @ 5400 rpm, making the ZZ383 the benchmark by which all other 383cid small blocks will be measured. GM’s testing was completed using a GM single-plane intake manifold, a 750cfm Demon mechanical secondary carb, and 1-3/4” primary x 33” length headers with a 4” collector. A dual-plane intake manifold can be used, but will affect overall peak performance numbers by 15-20 HP.

Iggy.... That's what I'm talking about- 100 lbs off the transom too with the AL heads. (Is it 50 lbs per head or motor- it's been a while???)

Any idea on the release date/cost?

What type of EFI systems can I run?? I need to be able to run slower speeds without fouling issues This motor with the factory ramjet package would be perfect!

cuda 08-08-2003 10:20 AM

That's a ton of torque for a small block! Any idea of the price?

Iggy 08-08-2003 10:36 AM

Price wasn't listed in Pace Performance or Scoggin-Dickey's websites. They both say to "call for price".
The HT383 @ 340hp is $3800 and the Fast Burn 385 (350ci/385hp) is $4200 so I'd guess it'll be around $4500 or so.

That ZZ383 would be a kick-a$$ engine for my 206. :D :D :D
If I could only talk the wife into it and swap the Alpha for a Bravo.

Cattitude,
The Ram Jet "Vortec" fuel injection system is 1400 but it's sold without the electronics.
Edelbrock maks a marine version of their throttle body system. Don't know price.

cuda 08-08-2003 11:44 AM

I wonder if this system would work.

That's not a system....

No computer, harness etc, useless as is.
