O/T NASCAR question
What is the difference between a Busch series car and a Winston Cup car? I'm a new NASCAR fan and I was just wondering.
Thanks All Roby :D |
The engine is the basic difference.

On top of the motor difference the wheelbase is shorter on a busch car and they are lighter. Going to bristol friday morning can't wait!
|
Cup..... vs Busch
Busch car has a 2" shorter wheelbase, 100 less lbs wieght and a 9:1 comp motor which means less hp......pretty close.......they both run radial tires now.........that is done on purpose so if a Busch team wants to move up to Cup its not a completley different ballgame........a little faster, a little heavier, a little harder on tires........ or if a Cup team wants to go back to Busch.......easier.........and yes at the same track on the same weekend a Busch polesitting car has outqualified a polesitting Cup car.......usually due to better track conditions during qualifying......doug:) ;)

BRISTOL!!!
Goob:::: need someone to take that extra ticket off your hands for Saturday night!!!..........Bristol......my favourite........you dog!!!!!  :D :D
|
Jimmy "Haymaker" Spencer....hahahaa
Don't the Busch cars have less tire as well? Busch also runs a smaller cfm carb than Cup. Cup is 870 cfm and I think Busch is 400's or so. IS that right Budah?? Hey....why do ya think they hired Gary Nelson to police these guys....always someone looking for an edge. I don't blame them, with all the "equalizing the playing field" stuff going one, the drivers are having less and less to do with the outcome of the race......   They need to get back to racing......like it was 10 years ago. That was killer. |
ARCA is another class that sometimes runs at a race on Saturday instead of BUSCH. Same engines as WC. my cousin races ARCA they have run faser practice times then the WC cars on occasion.
last time i was at the shop they had 9 Ernie Elliot engines on the bench, and 4 in cars. you should hear about the tricks. in NASCAR it ain't cheat'N till you get caught. how about Plugging a section of the tube frame for the Nitrous canister volume. or soaking the tires in mineral spirits for qualifying. watch the cars at the super speedways. they look like a dog that got hit in the rear by a car. down onthier bump stops. one way valves in the shocks to get the back ends down to cut the earo drag. the crew "pushes " the car into spec as they are lifting on the back end the whole way through inspection i hope seeing the cars at Milwaukee turned some of you gear heads into fans. can't beat standing at the fence when 42 cars blow your hat off at 198mph literally 3 feet away. my hat landed on the guys head behind me this year. I can't make that stuff up |
I heard the truck race tonight was killer! I should have went this morning.

Rambunctious,
Where is your cousin from, I may know him. |
Busch
The cars are 2" shorter in the wb and lighter. 390 cfm Holley carb, and 9.5:1 comp ratio. Also different cylinder heads and cams (less airflow). About 550 hp ona Busch and 725 ona WCup car. I think they now use the same tires and I know the fuel is the same.

You may be right on the tires. It used to be a heavier Cup car on less tire. Helped emphasize the driver, harder to drive a bigger heavier car with more power on less rubber.
You mught be right now about passing tires back and forth between Cup and Busch. I know the tire Goodyear is using now is much differ than the older ones. They are not real good, but not real bad....and can typically go longer stretches. More predictable, so to speak. Sometimes I think that is a bad thing for the sport....a forgiving tire makes up for a less skilled driver.... Who knows... I like the looks of a Busch car more....I know that sounds nuts, but it looks longer. 24 Pepsi car Gordon used to run was killer. Should be a good show this weekend, have fun down there everyone!!! TOo bad Jimmy won't be there, he always puts on a show at that place Hey Ram...tire treatments are an old dirt track thing. Lots of guys still do it, but it eats the tires up really bad, blisters them. I know guys who run circle track Karts who treat the tires also...... Always a way to go faster, plus, can't race with that rear spoiler outta the air...one way ticket to bringin it around in traffic. THat is only a qualifying package. No air= no downforce. You can see the Cup and Busch cars running that shock package during qualifying at super speedways also.....just can't race with it. They even go as far as to shave the reminaining portion of the lug off the hub for the qualifying run (the part that sticks out after the nut is tight), to lighten the load....especially on a rotating part!!! For race day, you need it to be able to line up the nuts though. Pretty cool littel stuff they do...and that is only the very tip :D :D :D ;) Okay...I'll go away now....hahahahaah |
my cousin (second cousin technically) is Tim Steele
3 time ARCA Points Champion. tried to make the big race a few times. bad luck, some major wrecks. suffered from concussion sindrom like Steve Park. raced half a season with one eye closed because he had double vission. never told the doctors. still won races. he has had no fear all his life. I rode on the back of his 100mph + snowmobile when we were 12!!! ONCE!!!! he has raced gocarts, Husky motorcycles, on ice, jet skiis nationally, minichamps (small indy looking local track cars). late models with Johnny Benson in Grand Rapids, ARCA, some Bush, and as mentioned tried to qualify for some winston cup they were the first team to roll into ARCA with a backup car and a 50' race hauler(previously owned by Ernie Irvin). now look at all the million dollar ARCA teams today!! Tim's two superspeedway cars for this season are Bill Elliots last year's car and Sterling Marlin's last year's Brickyard winning car. serious equipment What is cool about ARCA is they race everything from Talladega/MichiganDaytona etc. to small dirt tracks the next weekend. |
Yup, ARCA is a great series, as is the ASA. Tear up alot of equipment though....short track beating and banging. Funny you mention full size race haulers in ARCA....hell, now they are bringing them to Late Model dirt shows!!!!
I do not know him, but I certainly know of him. He has had a ton of success in the ARCA series, as you have mentioned. Other than/or in addition to/ Frank Kimmel, he is probably the hottest ARCA driver in the last 5-7 years or so....don't ya think?? That is wild about the double vision. One tough s.o.b., that's for sure. Like alot of professional drivers, he has driven all sorts of vehicles and probably won in most of them. I thought he ran a few Cup races, but I guess I was wrong. I always pull for him becuase he let's it hang out. I know he has torn up some equipment in the Busch series, and lost a ride or two, but I always liked him and pulled for him. Seemed like he was going to put it up front, or wreck trying. Sometimes that isn't the best idea.....:) Wish him luck from me and tell him not to race if he has post concussion syndrome......!!Ahahahahaahahah Too bad he missed the train...much harder to get into Cup racing in 2003 than it was in 1993..... Do you think he would want to be interviewd for an online racing radio show?? I can have the host call him if it is something he would do. Let me know what yo think, would help the show and I would think he might like the exposure....although the show is pretty small right now. Tell me what you think....Thanks... See ya guys... :) ALLAN |
I need a small block that turns 9k+.....how bad would 2 of those sound running across the lake!!
Ofcourse...one Poker Run and it would be time for a tear down:D :D :D |
Killer!!
Merlin540 had twin mouse motors in Agitator when he bought it. They turned out about 550hp (I think) and spun around 7K....hahahahahaha 110mph on small blocks...pretty cool!!!!!:D :D :D |
