Rough running???

I have a 99 HP 500 carb that is acting kind of funny.... It seems to idle fine and after accelerating through 1000-1500 rpms it runs great... But between about 1000 to 1500 it feels like it wants to bog down and sometimes it will backfire..

What can I do to troubleshoot and solve this problem?

Here are a few things to check:
Ignition timing
Float levels
Power Valve
Jetting
Vaccum Leak
Valve springs
Those motors are known for trashing valve springs. But, I don't think springs would give you this problem. I just thought I would throw that in as well, in case.

Anyone else want to add???
