Idle speed and reversion

My last motor dropped an intake valve seat. SBC with the idle set at 600 stock merc ss risers and exhaust. I don't think that reversion was a factor but I don't know. 600 shifts great would I be better off with a faster idle speed. Different people drive my boat so what would the best idle speed to protect the engine from reversion?

Thanks:D

I would guess that you were just unlucky on the intake valve seat. It probably wasn't machined as well as the other seats (at the GM factory) and just failed prematurely. Exhaust seats usually fail before intake seats if there is a fundamental problem with your engine.
