Shorter good breathing flame arrestors??
One option I'm looking at for my 575SC is to put a single or pair of shorter flame arrestors in place to make room for the 1.625" needed for the Whipple intercooler kit. Anyone know of any that will work for this app?

If all you need is less than 3/4 of an inch, then just raise the entire hatch that much by putting a lip around the inside edge. Maybe use some strips of 1"x 1" thick white lexan and screw them to the hatch. It could be done fairly easily without any cutting. You would probably have to change the hinges also or put a 1" block between then and the deck also.

And actually, since the hatch is made of 3/4(at least mine is), you could just leave the hinge placement on the deck alone and then mount the halves that connect to hatch on the underside of the hatch. Then notch the strip for the thickness of the hinge. The only problem I see is that the back bottom edge of the hatch might be rubbing on the lip it sets in when you try to rasie it.
Make sense??????????? |
Thanks Griff,
Makes sense, Jo offered to make me another hatch with an integral taller lip too but I suspect between shipping etc that option is a little less feasible. Back to the flame arrestor idea- just wanted to confirm that it dead-ended. When you remove the existing arrestor its obvious there is no gain to be had as the guts of the TB's are right there tickling the ceiling of the arrestor. |
