HPI mufflers-any trails yet?

These sound interesting, has anyone tried or tested these yet? What did you compare them to?

Thanks, John B

Check out some of the threads in the General Discussion. We have several satisfied OSO members.

Thanks

Yes, we have been working on getting this engine below 86db for some time. It has been one of our biggest challenges. Right know we are at 87- 89db depending on the boat, with our STD 4" clamp-on. I have a new prototype that is being tested this week that should get this engine below 86db without giving up any HP. These tests are being done 4' back and 4' up, at an idle. We hope that this fix’s some of the problems in WI.

Hopefully we will have it sorted out this week and we look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

I tried a set of clamp-ons on a 500hp with Stainless marine dry exhaust.
They do a great job of reducing noise, they took out the harsh bark and replaced it with a mellow deep growl. Very nice.
However...they do cost you HP. I lost just over 100rpms and 2mph gps, 3 mph on the Gaffrig, so as they say nothing is for free. I also noticed the engine seem to take longer to reach top speed, so they are restrictive and if you don't want any top end loss with a NA engine, look at a switchable system, or you'll have to remove them when you want top speed.
