For a simple drill or tap guide get a piece of aluminum, a little on the thick side1/2-1", drill a hole thru it on a drill press (so you know it's perpendicular) to whatever diameter drill or tap you are using. set the metal on the surface, clamp it and this will guide your drill or tap perpendicular to the surface you are machining. You can use other metals- wood is better than nothing though a little less precise. Good luck!

B.T., unfortunately I'm a little short of cash too. Crazy thing, it's not enough my wife got a new house, now she wants blinds and curtains too. Go figure. :D :D

Blue Thunder, no I didn't use any kind of guide, there's not much flat area there. You just have to be careful and go slow. You need to try to hold the housing steady while doing the work. By the way I still have the Heli coil kit left from when I did mine, Your welcome to use it or just a coil if you have the tap. (it didn't come with a drill bit.) Charles

Crazyhorse.... that's the problem with wives. I have a brand new whipple sitting in my dining room disguised as a new oak dining room table/chair set.. oh well ;)

Cattitude... thanks for the home made drill jib idea. I have a drill press, so now I just need to sneak a little piece of aluminum for work... shhh, don't tell anyone.

27 Fountain... I'm going to check at work for the tap and heli coil. If I can't get one there, I'd like to take you up on the use of your tap and a heli-coil. I think it takes a special tap for a heli-coil. I'm sure I can get my hands on the 41/64 drill bit. :)

I took mine to a machine shop to have some aluminum welded into the hole. For the same price, they redrilled and tapped it. Only $50.

B.T., Yup. I just found out the wife bought me the dually I've been looking at, but she disguised it as a Grand Am.
