Spark Arrestor for Carb'd SBC

Ok all you small block guys. What kind of aftermarket spark arrestor do you have and where did you get it? Oh and how much? See any performance gains?
Thanks

I put Gaffrigs on mine- bought them from CP Performance around $120 each. Very nice!
As far as performance gains, too many mods i.e. heads, cam, exhaust, etc. at the same time so can't give you a clue on what it will do by itself, but anything is better than that puny stock Merc arrestor!

My machinist has dynoed many different types and told me the ones that flow the most are the finned Barbron 3" tall. They look like the stock finned Merc arrestor but taller and gold colered. I replaced 4" tall Holley arrestors and picked up 50 rpm. I have 2 nice Holleys if your are intrested.

What do you want for the holleys? Are they better than the stock 350 mags?

How tall is the stock Merc arrestor? I know that I cant fit a taller one than stock. No room for it. I wonder if it would be worth it to check out one that was bigger around (Diameter) than stock. Do they even offer one like that?

Red Stripe, Gaffrig makes a 2" tall by 10" diameter

B.R.S. where can we get that arrestor..and what kind of Holley's....??

Red Stripe and Powergrudy - I have a new Eddie Marine polished stainless 8"x2" flame arrestor that has been installed but not run that is available. It's on a 454 dyno'd at 464 HP at 5400 rpm. Eddie Marine told me it's borderline for my application, but would be great for a potent small block. If you're interested email me at [email protected].

K&N

No gain, felt like it actually lost a bit. It's a nice Stainless rig with a velocity stack-type bottom. Looked at the $150-300 jobs from Eddie and CP, but seems they are really more for looks. Kinda stupid on a stock mercruiser SBC.

$79.00 at Jeg's. Coast Guard approved.

I have K&N's on every vehicle.. all have felt a gain, but not the boat.

Could be the constant diet of full trottle is erasing any gains it would have on a fresh motor. I have 320 hours.
