BBC valve cover spacers...

Fellas,
Who makes and where can I find a pair of valve cover spacers for Merlin heads on a Gen VI BBC? I have the "HP500" style aluminum GM's that interfere with the adjustable rocker lock nuts.

As always, thanks in advance!

CP Performmance sells them

I've got Merlin rectangular-port heads and the engines have the stock covers over Crane Gold roller rocker ams without spacers, and with the stock o-rings for gaskets. the drippers on the inside of the covers have been ground off but that's all. Don't ask me why they fit because I can't answer that. I bought the boat set up like this. Dave

Just grind the drippers of and the stock ones should fit

When you go to grind the drippers off I found it easier to grab them with a pair of vice grips and wiggle them. They will snap off almost perfectly. Then you can finish with the grinders. Your stock covers should work.

I've got a couple of sets of 1" spacers.

waterbum 09-26-2003 08:42 AM

How much?

My builder replaced my Crower rocker arms with some Crane Gold and now the covers will not fit. Will the 1" spacers allow me to keep the original covers? Will they push the covers into the headers (Sterlings)? The builder has a set of the angeled covers (tall), but I don't like the look as much as what I had on there.

How much do you want for a set of 4?

you dont need spacers......loose the drippers and use the thicker felpro gaskets.

KCHOTBOAT 09-26-2003 10:00 AM

With my Merlin heads stock covers did not work. I ground the oil drips and even a thick gasket would not work. I went with tall valve covers.

Do the 2 piece B&M Valve Covers have the same clearance problems?

Thanks for your responses!

mcollinstn,
I'd be interested in purchasing a pair of them. I can't e-mail or pm you due to my membership status. If your interested, please e-mail me at [email protected].

The drippers were already machined off.

I'll try setting them on there with the thick rubber gasket...

I am interested in a set of 1" spacers also: [email protected]

Guys, I went and checked my stash. I found 3 pairs. One pair is "normal". Two pairs have been angle-milled and are about 3/8" thick on the short side and close to 7/8 thick on the tall side - I'd be concerned that they may not give you what you need.

Also, be aware that 1" spacers may or may not mash the valve covers into your exhaust system...

Does anybody know where to commercially purchase valve cover spacers? They must be approximately .5 inches tall and not for the $300 price Sihler's Performance is trying to get for theirs? I though I saw some in a catalog but cannot find the magazine or find any on the web. Thanks

BB valve cover spacers

Try K.E. Power Products. Their standard spacer is 1/4" to 3/8" but I expect they would make whatever you want. 386 446 0660.
