Is their a way to check the hours on these motors that don't have hour meters.

The Mercury scan tool will give you the engine hours. Any Mercury service outlet should have one.

575sci's? if so yes,the ecm contains the info. You need a scan tool to access it. Older hp575"s,nope.

Its not foolproof. I purchased a used boat with 575SCi's that had at least 75 hours on them. When I had the ecm's checked for hours it showed 15. The hour meters read 46.

An hour meter will run if a key is left on, but will the ECM record hours if the key is on but the engine is not running?

Yes they did. I called the previous owner and he said they failed. Its funny that it didn't show up in the service record.

The engine has to be running.
