What type of gasket do I use for Merlin heads ?

I have an 89 454 mag with some head troubles. I pulled the heads and they are Merlins not the stock mercruisers.

Does anyone know if I should run Mercury gaskets (head, intake , exhaust) or do Merlin heads require special gaskets ?

Thanks
Bill

I second Felpro Marine head gaskets. Your local auto parts store may not carry the marine gasket.

I've used the FelPro 17040 marine gasket on the 454 engines.

OK...but for guys like me with gen V blocks and Merlin heads which do we use? I put them together a few years ago and lost the info...something was diffferent but I can't remember what......

Yup, the 17040 is the one I use on the GenV 454 engines and the head gasket for the 502 GENV is a 17048.
