Mark IV 330hp

The engine came out and was replaced with a 502.
It's all apart.
Inside is very clean, was a fresh water boat.
std. bore, and it can go back together that way.
Should I freshen it up with bearings, rings, oil pump, and timing chain and sell it???
Or should I sell the block to someone in need. (OSOer) only.
It's complete, carb to pan.

Keep it till spring and sell it to some cruiser guy who forgot to winterize properly and cracked his block in the lifter gallery. You'll probably get more for it that way.

Why'd you take it apart? Now you gotta spend money and time to be able to sell it.

It's just not desirable from any performance standpoint.
(is it a 4 bolt or 2 bolt by the way?)

convincor 10-13-2003 04:10 AM

it's a 4-bolt
I was going to build it, but weighing out the cost of a forged bottom end and a good set of heads plus machine work, at $4300 for a brand new GM 502HO marine engine, how could I go wrong?

Don't sell it on OSO. It's worthless to proably 90 percent of the members. Sell it on a drag racing site or a off road site. There they don't care that it has crummy heads or 2 bolt mains.

convincor 10-14-2003 05:24 AM

what's the block worth???

Crazyhorse 10-14-2003 05:54 AM

To the best of my knowledge the MKIV 330's weren't 4-bolt blocks. I'd take a close look at the crank to see if it's a forged one.

Many (most) of the MKIV 330's were 4 bolts, a few were 2 bolts, all were cast cranks/pistons. The best of your knowledge is now even better :D

All the GENV low-horse engines I've had apart were 4-bolt, but I've never run into a MKIV that was. I'm sure they're out there waiting for me though.

I have two mark IV engines with 4 bolt mains and cast assemblies. I also have one 4 bolt with forged. They came both ways except I don't thing 2 bolts and forged ever got together (stock).

MkIV 330's got whatever block was handy (2 or 4 bolt caps). They ALL got the cast hardware, though...
