FYI,Houston Prop
Months ago I hit "something" and REALLY screwed my 26 Bravo 1.I mean it looked like someone tried to open it like a can of spam.Being too big for a paper weight,I decided to toss it!Then I thought,I'm not a prop professional(like Darin & Sean),MAYBE I should send it to HOUSTON PROP so they can get a good laugh. This box arrived last week with a "new" labbed 26 in it!! Imagine my surprise!!! Called Darin to tell him he sent me someone else's prop.Happily,I was informed it was my "old"26.Long story short,72.8gps,5500rpm,great mid-range,sticky water,85 deg,95 humidity(tipical New Orleans)28'PowerQuest,stockHP500efi.I'm happy!! Prop screwed?call 1-281-580-7767

Man, don't you love to hear these storys after all of the other bs you hear about.
|
Awesome. Love to hear things like this. Way to go, Darin!
|
good news , what was your old speed did you pick up any MPH?
|
Darin has been following my prop/boat issue for a while and always gives me sound advice. When I sort out my engine problems and am ready for a real prop I will definately call Houston Prop!!
It is good to post about the good guys on OSO!!! |
H2Xmark,Didn't pick up any speed.Thats where the boat runs BUT thats great for a prop I was going to throw away!I did pick up after HOUSTON PROP labbed it the first time.I'm just amazed they were able to get it back!!!BOB
|
Doesn't suprise me, Darin does awsome work.
|
thumbs up to you all.
Houston Propeller
Thanks You! |
bob how does the prop compare to my old brand-x prop
i'm running 85 on gps @ 5600 with 4 1/2 lbs of boost with a labbed 28 bravo 1 now.brand-x i ran 78 @ 5800 rpm's. |
Prowler,It's very interesting. My Houston prop leaves better and has a better top end. Both are 26?Houston prop 5500rpm,brand x 5200(give or take needle bounce)Both are very smooth, but obivious difference!Called brand x with serial # and found brand x had 300rpm decrease put in.SOOO,Brand x is "like" a 27.Now my 24 labbed (HOUSTON also)leaves like a rocket,my Houston 26 is my best over all,Brand x will pull 5500 with the new AFR heads, life is good!!!(Man,you gotta fast boat)BOB

at speeds you are running actually a polished prop will run slower thana satin finished prop.as the satin finish creates friction and helps hold the BITE.:D

Another Question for Houston
1 Attachment(s)
I have a 19 Mirage that i banged up pretty good last summer, I hit bottom and bent over all 3 blades. Is this worth repairing or should i spend the 400+ on a new prop. One more question I am running it on a 26 foot Searay with a single 454 330, top speed is about 45 on average. Any tips on getting a little more out of her, should i go for a 4 blade. Any suggetions would be great or a qoute on a repair. I attatched a pic of the prop.
Thank you for you time. Jason |

Houston Prop Makes Perfomance Happen!!
I want to make sure everyone knows what a great job Darin at Houston Props can do.
I sent him my 19 Mirage stainless prop late last year with all three blades bent over and when I got it back it was BETTER than new. I got to test run the new prop on my boat this weekend and it made a huge difference in the performance of the boat. Base on what I told Darin on how the prop performed on the boat he made the adjustments to make it perform better. The biggest problem I had with the prop was cavitations when trimming and when turning, now the prop does not want to leave the water, it acts like it is a four blade, which I was thinking of switching to but did not want to lose the speed. Now I have the best of both worlds and don’t have to compromise. My topd end did not increase much, but we all want that extra 2 or 3 miles an hours, and i got it! Thanks Darin!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D ************************************** Darin, this is a copy of a thread i started in the general forum. Thanks again! Jason |
skeguard

Darin, I tested the prop Friday and it looks like it will need a slight refinement.
The air temp was right at 90. The boat is a monster out of the hole. Unreal and zero blow out. I hit 69@ 5000~5050RPM (GPS) but the boat really has a porpoise issue now. It seems that any positive trim I give it at WOT will make it porpoise wildly. It was a real handful at speed. Will taking out some cup fix that? I will give you a shout Monday to discuss. Also, midrange was fantastic and cruise speed great (50~55 mph). Thanks... Larry Chesterfield Va. 2000 Sunsation 288 |
MLITEFAN
