.060 over is a 468ci. and is pretty common. I have heard that you should have some kind of test done to the block to make sure you can go .060 over due to wall thickness.

I don't know about gen 5, but I am .070" over on my 498" Mark IV and I have heard of guys going .100" over on blocks with minimal core shift.

I just was wondering what size cubic inch I could manage without trashing the block I'm planning on building some 4.25" stroke motors next time around......060 over with the 4.25" crank is a 496 right?

PatriYacht 10-15-2003 04:36 PM

Before the 502 came out, a lot of guys were building 496's. If you need to in the future you should be able to bore it once more. .080 or even .100 is possible on some blocks. Just have it sonic checked. I had a 427 in a 68 Vette bored .100 with a solid lifters. Revved it 6500 on many occasions.

Hee's what you do Dyno. Punch the first one out until you hit water and sleeve it. Then just don't bore the others as far,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yeah, I thought you'd like that,,,,,,,,

I know quite a few bowtie blocks that have gone as far as 4.5 which is .250 over. Personally, I wouldnt go over .060 without filling at least some of the water jacket to give it strength

Dyno....save your money from boring......stay low compression.....030 - .060 over and BLOWERS!....I think Crazyhorse will agree!......Fred
