Chris, I'm just curious. Are the Bravo couplers much the same as the TRS couplers. That's to say, are they cushioned in some way or solid?

yes,the bravo couplers are more flexible than the trs plates.

Sterndrivespec - What are you doing to run 1000hp thru a Bravo, How do they hold up And What mods do you do ? Thanks

martiniboat 10-17-2003 01:24 PM

Ah huh...so the Bravo couplers are like the Alphas?

sterndrivespec 10-17-2003 05:24 PM

to run a 1000 hp thru a bravo we mostly cross our fingers and pray.not really.we are running bravo xr drives.we check them a couple of times each season and have updated them with some of the newer parts.they hold up pretty well.

I'm running around 1200 hp through a Bravo coupler (through a BMax drive) and mine lasted 220 hours before the area around the bolt mounting holes (to the flywheel) gave way. After doing a little research, I'm told that is unusual to fail like that. They say that normally the aluminum splines strip out if you get airborne and back in the water still under full power. I rarely run in that rough of water, so I didn't have that problem. I'm going to double drill the mounting holes (12 instead of 6) to see if that helps prevent my problem.

chris , sorry for delay will call you on monday.
thnx for help
-can you ship international?

bobl 10-19-2003 08:48 AM

I just had a first hand experience how strong those aluminum splines are. Had a customer apparently back into something. He twisted the yoke off at the coupler and twisted splines on every shaft in the outdrive! But the coupler stayed in tact...hmmmmm.

Unreal! Now that's some serious R&D/testing!:D
