quick one, torque
Whats the torque specs for gil manifold bolts at the head. 454cu.in.
Thanks,] Martin. |
Way back when I was told 25 ft/lbs and then torque them again after a few cycles. I put considerably more than that on them because I cant get at them later to tighten them up again.

See S/M
Look at staibnless marine's website.
They have the install instructions there. I'm sure it's similar for the Gils..............For some reason 25-30 sounds right. |

If you use good gaskets it would be 25-30 foot pounds once. If you use cheap header gaskets (simply punched out of gasket material) you will have the spec memorized in no time (you will change them twice a season).
A three piece gasket, a steel core with gasket material on each side (sandwich steel core gaskets), are the only way to go. Dennis Moore Check out my site about gaskets at www.mooreperformance.org |
thanks guys.

DO NOT use a steel core gasket on aluminum headers. Gil sells a real nice graphite gasket that doesnt leak and can be reused and doesnt stick, or use a good felpro or mr gasket performance gasket.
