Why do you have to pull the Drive?? I would think if you could losen the motor mounts and bring the motor forward just a little then you should be fine with out removing the drive.......
Let's just say I've seen it done this way many times..... Was it "the wrong way?" |
Originally posted by formulafastech Yes, with stock Merc mounts, there are 4 bolts. Alignment is easy to check. There are a bunch of good threads on OSO about it, that can explain it better than I, if you do a search. As far as the coupler, you can check the splines, and also, you should be able to see if the rubber in it has been hurt, by looking at it. WIth only 50 hours on it, unless you hit something hard, or did some serious beating on the boat, its unlikely that its hurt. |

Thanks Rich!! I there for a second I thought I was the only one that was doing it that way!!
Gordo, does it a little different yet, he pull the two back bolts that are near the coupler, that face down, but when going back together it was hard not to drop the spring washers!! I have done it both ways, undoing the bellhousing and gordo's way. The fountain had TRS drives, and they spoiled me!! It was easy, just undo the tranny's and motormounts and pull!! Funny thing though, the first time we pulled the motor's in the fountain, someone said we had to pull the drives also....Now if you were pulling the tranny's it would be different.. |
So if I don't pull the Drive what is the process for getting it out. I have the whole interior removed so space isnt an issue.
Thanks Rob |
