pushrod problem + cylinder head bolt problem

-changed gm heads with merlins and pushrods are short now
what to use?

-cylinder head bolts are long for merlins
-what to use?

pls help or shoot me!

jpclear 10-24-2003 04:22 PM

Merlin should be able to tell you just what bolts you need to use. Canfield supplied the different necessary bolts when I bought their heads. I already told you about the pushrod thing. Go back to your earlier post. --- Jer

timucin 10-24-2003 05:37 PM

yes i remember

how to reach merlin?
do you have
www adres or phone number?
thnx

jpclear 10-24-2003 08:51 PM

Well, I am not using Merlin stuff myself and you must have gotten those heads from someone who does. Hey, OSO guys; can you get in here and help Tim out with his his head bolt length prob.??!? - Or the web site for Merlin? --- Jer

Thanks,

pushrods;
my calculations says;
intake 7.800
exhaust 8.600
does it sound resonable?

TURB02256 12-01-2003 02:42 PM

How did you arive at the calculation. I do mine using a checker push rods and machinest blueing on the valve tip. Then roll the cam around a few times to check the contact patch. also i check the lift on each valve with and with out valve lash before and after I replace the checker push rods with the new ones

FloridianSon 12-01-2003 03:05 PM

I to am showing world part #073010 for the eight bolts and Manley part #42102 for the washers. To check my geometry I got the plastic gage that manley makes at the speed shop that slips over the rocker stud and you use a feeler gage to check the difference and all seemed to work out well for me.

timucin 12-01-2003 03:15 PM

turbo2256; i also ordered pushrod length checker but , it came wrong
i cut and rebuild one for myself, then did the same things like you did and here is the results
-7,800 intake
-8,600 exhaust
but i cant find these sizes...
i finnaly spoked to crane cams after 19 minutes of call waiting they say that they have to custom build .....

timucin 12-01-2003 03:18 PM

cylinder head bolts:
first arp package was wrong
second i ordered with the number is wrong
now will order the third.....
today is not my day.....

FloridianSon 12-01-2003 03:20 PM

timucin 12-01-2003 04:01 PM

timucin 12-01-2003 04:27 PM

http://www.worldcastings.com/tech/me...ylindehead.doc

here is the link it says use arp-135-3603 bolt kit, i already have but they dont fit?!?!?

my engine is mark IV,yep i am very sure cause checked the casting number etc.

yep my heads are merlin,it writes on them, part number etc,is ok

what does this mean?!?
strange isnt it?

Panther 12-02-2003 07:07 PM

I ordered ARP headbolts recently and had to add an extra washer underneath the headbolt's to make it work. I have a mark VI block and the bolts were running all the way to the end of the hole. i wound up cutting an 1/8" off the threads and re-tapping the end. It all worked out fine after that.

If your ordering from the manufactures direct your paying racers net or higher.Do not do this unless you have to .

In my opinion if anybody pays racers net or retail they are getting screwed   :mad:There is too many places to shop around.

Push rods custom length try
Crower.com
Compcams.com
Luniti
epw.com dealer for above

I wonder if the merlin heads are a early design that doesn't have the raised exhaust ports ??. Just a thought?

I bet the shipping is the worst part of ordering and import tax.customs keeping your stuff when it comes in.
We take it for granted how easy we have it here.
Good luck if i can help further let me know.
