Weiand Blower Question

Just a question............what are the differences between a weiand street blower, and the marine blower.

Asking because I was wondering what would happen if you put a 177 street blower on a marine engine (they don't make a 177 marine blower for a SBC)

Would it survive ?

Ideally, this would be intercooled (maybe not the first year) and spin about 6000-6500 rpms,

Any input is appreciated.

6500 rpm's is really beyond the 177's range of efficiency. Perhaps a 250 would better serve you. I think the differences between the street and marine are the relief (pop-off) valves.

I am no expert for sure but I do have opionions. :D Street blower and Marine I believe GO4BROKE is correct. Really just depends on what your goal is. I could go on but really need more info. Would the blower survive I would say yes. How long is another question that has a lot of variables that need looked at. Motor life, well need more info.

What do you mean they dont make a 177 for marine SBC

I had one on a Merc 300 tempesr SBC and it made 433 HP@5200 rpm's with 5 lb's boost in a 1986 Formula 223LS

I was looking through a catalog, and all I saw was a 142 marine style blower, and a 177 for a big block, and a 177 street blower for a small block..........or did i miss something

Are you sure you didn't have a 142 ?

Right now, I have 355's that make about 425-440 hp at 6000.

I spin a 21 P props around 6000, and the engines move a 7500 plus pound 31 scarab to 71. anyways, i was considering doing a set of 383 short blocks & blowers (that way, I could use everything else I have).

I think I read somewhere that the marine blowers are hard anodized on the inside for corrosion protection. No other differences. It should work fine for a while. Or call a distributer and see if there's anything they can do for you.

You would be better to look for a larger blower than a 177 and turn it slower.A 177 is going to build alot of heat @ 6000-6500 rpm.
The difference ... ??? The marine blower kit included special adapter for the thermostat housing for the 174 B&M .This was needed for clearance around the drive snout . They also included all the pulleys and spacers to achieve alignment for your accessories. The term (marine) tends to add $$$ to the price as we already know.:)

If i remember correctly, B&M along with weiand (now holley) use 177, 250 and 420 model numbers, and these model numbers mean how many cu. in. of air the blower moves per revolution. Since the question is about a 350 in. small block, seems as though the 177 would turn about 2 to 1 for zero boost. What would be the difference in using a 250 blower on a 502 in. motor? I used to run a 177 on a 502 and got many hours of service. It had great power, and made ton's of noise. I have seen several small blocks with 177/142's that looked great and ran well too. Good luck!
