If you budget $50K for building a boat, plan on spending $75-100K. Unless it's the first boat you've ever built, then plan on $100-125K.:D

Like the others have said, 100mph on a 50K budget will be though...
I know of a 1999 30' Superboat with a 575HP/540 that will run 85mph. The boat was first rigged with a 750HP engine and ran in the high 90's... If you go with a single engine 28' to 30' boat, you may be able to keep your budget. I think if you put enough HP in a 28' Pantera, 29' Kryptonite, 29' Fountain, 30' Superboat you can hit triple digits... All have good size cabins. Good Luck! |
Although it won't be the most cost effective way of doing it, I have all but decided to get either a working boat that is underpowered / nonpowered. Put on a much less expensive drive like a rebuilt bravo 1 (Versus a XR / XZ or z #6) - those should be able to hande 550 or so HP per engine. If the boat has engines I'll keep them in for a while, if it doesn't ill build my engines as minimilastically as possible (8.5 compression or so, naturally apspirated, wet sump, etc - capable of being supercharged but not add the extra $$ / HP until I need it). It probabily won't run 100s or even 90s when I start, but I am looking for a boat capable of 100/110, as in when I have the money for the parts the boat can accomodate it - engine swaps are much easier then hull swaps. As I said before, I would rather my project take more time and more money and have dual engines - I don't trust myself that much in open waters(I live on a canal which leads to river which leads to gulf of mexico; they recently made river 25mph to protect the manatees - so all boating now in gulf). Every time I blew an engine on my scarab I could at least get home without calling seatow or the coast guard - even if it did take three or four hours. Thanks for all the suggestions - right now there's a 33' Fountain on ebay for $25k with one day left, with two 454 magnums and detached Bravo 1's, Kplanes, trailer - price will probabily go up but it's in the right range (Item #2442333281) - 1 day and change left. I may just bid. Thanks again for the suggestions and feel free to add any more - esp. with two engines :)

Paul,
Take a look at my Fountain 10 Meter, It has fresh paint, untouched gel on bottom, new tabs, pumps and on a tri axel trailer. I'd sell it for what I have into it. (around 13.5k) Picture is attached, if unable to view it , email me. email [email protected] |

Welcome to the board. I emailedf you about a year back regarding your Allison powered boats. Thought you alreay had a T-53 to go in that fountain. BTW, I do have a spare crash box if you decide to build it. Gary |
