K&N oil filters, Any good?
I've been looking at these because of their high burst pressure. What is the general consensus on them? Any good? Any other recommendations?

Crazy.. I never looked into the K & N ones, But when i needed a high burst filter i went with fram. I use the HP 4... I might be wrong in this but i think you can use the HP 6 on yours...

I have been using the K&N"s for some time. I have had no problem with them, but I can't really tell you if they are a good effective filter. After reading some of the lab reports on the Frams I have been staying away from them. My thinking on the K&N is that their other products are very well engineered, and they are very available, so why not?

I like using the WIX Racing filters ... high burst pressures, good reviews, great looking, and I think some of the NASCAR guys use them, too. Can be ordered through local WIX suppliers for about $10.00 each.

I've used K&N's for some time. No issues other than they cost more than most because of the name. Good features and protection...

use them in the pleasure boat, race boat, car, and the dually diesel! VERY GOOD products.

Why would burst pressure ever be an issue on a boat? True you may plug the bypass, but you'll never run the boat when it's cold out. If you should happen to plug the passage or the filter, it's a moot point because the engine just went south anyways.

I understand that some filters tend to split at the crimped seam at the top. Even though I don't run the boat in freezing weather it's till possible to have higher-than-normal oil pressure start-up here in the great lakes. I've been reading a little about the K&N filters and just wondered if anyone was running them Cord, you all winterized for the winter?

Just a thought, wouldn't there be alot of vehicles with burting filters during the winter,(in the states where it actually freezes and snows :) ) if this were a problem?

All the auto engines have fliter bypass valves so that under those conditions the oil isn't passing through the filter, it just taking the shortcut right into the oil passages.
