Telescoping Ladder
 

I'm having difficulty finding the same telescoping swim deck ladder just like one I saw on a friend's 38 Baja. There are numerous aftermarket telescoping units in West and Overton, however this one was a slicker design. It was underslung" in that it mounts under the transom with no hardware on top to stub toes on.

Next, the pivot point at the top of the telescoping section actually slid forward on a slide mount so the whole assembly was tucked under the transom instead of the others that have an offset fixed hinge that forces you to lay the collapsed ladder up on top of the deck.

When you want to use the ladder, it's easy to unsnap a single strap and yank the assembly straight out til it pivots down.

Is this a common unit for sale, or something particular to Baja?

A similar ladder was standard on our Regal also. Boat US has one listed for about $95.

try this, its from westmarine i think. I didnt know they sold on ebay, but this is usually found on most baja's.

Kind of interesting the one on e-bay shows a picture that looks like it stows BELOW the swim deck, but the description says, "This auction is for the Over Platform models which folds flat onto the swimstep."

I must admit I was a little confused at first by the illustrations in West Marine. It turns out the one referred to by US 1 Fountain is likely a Windline also and probably the same as on that friend's 38 Special.

It's appreciably cheaper than the $400 for the machined hinging one at butlermarine, so I believe I'll go that route.

I had the same ladder. Go look at a new baja. They have a similiar ladder but it locks in place with a button on the end of one the tubes, much easier to user and no additional strap or extra hole in your boat.

Mintish Panther, the one on your friends boat is the same one that came on my boat, and it works fairly good. The snap is a pain though, and it is not tough enough to use for real big people or use when the boat is out of the water. I bought the aluminum, like Butler has on their web site and it is a way better quality, heavier duty ladder. It is a lot more money though, so it just depends how much money you want to spend. If you buy the one from WestMarine, which is like your friends ladder, don't poke another hole in the hull. I was always going to screw or rivet a velcro strip to the ladder housing somehow, that would make it much easier to use.
