Sounds like you need the manuals and the course or atleast a friend that can teach you about the boat and how to handle it around other boats.

I did not get any manuals with the boat. Lowering the drive and hitting the ground was just a stupid move on my part. I am usually extremly careful when doing things like this. I was just worried I might have knocked it out of allignment or caused any other damage. I guess these drives are pretty bullet proof. I have scatches on mine so the previous owner dragged it on something.

Man Dave, I wish I had only scratches on my outdrives! The previous owner sheared the skeg completely off of the port drive and the other is pretty well shot. Repairs I have to make before springtime. They can stand quite a bit of punishment and what you did is certainly not stupid, nor are you the only one to have done this. I remember the first boat I owned the outboard trim did not work and I pulled the thing out of the water and up the ramp, draggin the lower unit, cringeing (sp?) to the sound of the scraping, the entire time! :p :o FUGLY!

(And I asked someone what that trailer button was too!)

I continue to do a few "anomolies" each season... I just try to limit them.... I will try to get around to installing a remote drive switch at the transom, 'eventually'. Took me a whole season to have someone show me on my 2000 Quicksilver throttle that the trailer button was "holding the neutral button in while trimming up"...I even had the manuals :)...duh!... Though we kept her in a slip and had no real use for the trailer drive position till we pulled her out of the water at the end of the season. Having an extra pair of "helpful" eyes and hands while boating makes for a more pleasant experience for me.

Getting the cobwebs outta my head and the elbow greased at the beginning of each season is daunting experience, but well worth it!
