Lot of good input from everyone here.

That is a crane. Yea, I have a Firehawk. It's just a boat though...
|
Oh ok I was thinking it was a Pontiac Firehawk. The car.
And yes the info in here has been invalueable. Thanks Everyone. Rob |
I saw Ws6 and figured that was what you were thinking of.

I used to be into bikes until almost killed myself so I went to cars and boats.
When I bought my WS6 coming from a ninja I thought it was slow so I pulled the motor and built it. Now it makes 500 Crank Hp about 420 to the wheels. Runs 11 sec 1/4 and I've had it up around 190 before the gear swap. I sure am glad switching to cars and boats slowed me down a bit. |
Originally posted by formula31 I stayed away from a roller cam because of my Mark 4 block. I have heard of enough problems using the "adapted" roller lifters on these blocks that I chickened out. Im sure plenty of people have had success with them though. You can get 30 or so more hp out of them but Im not so sure about reliability. My machine shop guy said Mark 4 blocks should have the lifter bores bored true to the cam and sleeved. He said many are not perfectly perpendicular to the cam and thats where the problems come in. The later Gen blocks that are built for roller cams are fine. am i doing smthng wrong? |
The most important consideration regarding durability with hyd roller (solids also, but other factors come into play there) camshafts is spring pressure. Your springs need to be matched (and maintained ) to spec to prevent premature failure. With the aggressive profiles available correct spring pressures are mandatory for over the nose lifter control. If not controlled, lifter/lobe contact is lost and the resulting shock will eventually result in lifter/lobe failure. Properly done, roller cams are very reliable.

'aggressive profile cam' starting from what duration? lift?

WS6 and Cord
Most of these guys here understand Cam science far better than I, but I am sure the 731 is not too big for a 468. I am running one with a set of Merlin heads, Dart Intake and a 750 carb. Compression is 9.3:1. The cam is set up with, I believe, 6 degrees of advance. I have never dynoed. The builder claims 500 HP, but who knows. What I do know is it pushes my Hammer, weight 3300lbs. to 77.4MPH on GPS. It pulls like gangbusters. Everyone that rides in it comes away raving about the throttle response. I am running a 25 Pitch Mirage Plus labbed by Mercury. I am having a hard time thinking I would be better off with a smaller cam. The builder was going to put a 741 in but backed off as I am running Eddie Marine exhaust through silent choice. 52 hours on the motor with no reversion problems. I am knocking on wood hoping I continue to have good luck. Hope you get it figured out. |
