most hp you can get out of 525sc blower

I was wondering whats the most hp people have seen out of a 525sc blower and inner cooler

puder 12-03-2003 11:49 PM

wel i am running a very similar setup to the 525sc. I am making 551 hp at 5300rpms @ 5psi of boost. I am not running an intercooler. I'd think i could pick up another 50 with a pulley change and an intercooler.

I ran a 7 lb pulley that was supposed to put ot 575 hp with no intercooler. But I always ran 100 octane.

6.5 psi on the boost and changed the cams to roller...580hp

mtm 12-04-2003 09:09 PM

I was thinking 510 CI stock ported heads, crane cam # 651, 8.5 compression.
The 525sc supercharger + innercooler 5 to 7 psi of boost should make 675 to 725 hp.
What do you guys think ?

i've heard thata 177 or 174 blower is too small for anythign over 454. BUT then again i've also heard that it will work just fine on bigger cube engine. I've heard far more its too small BUT the peopel who said its fine have both been engine biulders.

You need at least a 250 blower for that many CI's. Still, you probably make a max of 650 or so HP.

B4M, I'd be curious to here more about what exactly you did. I'm going to be doing a top end freshening this Spring and would like to add some HP without going crazy.

What cam did you use???
Timing changes???
Top pulley size you changed to???
Carb Jetting changes???
Fuel Octane???
Did you dyno it??? If so 580hp at what rpm???

Thanks.

PatriYacht 12-05-2003 07:44 AM

That 651 cam is awfully big for a 509. I'm using it in my 540's and it's a little big there. Your lower compression will make it idle very poorly and unless you use dry exaust, it will revert badly. Frank (The Preacher) from COPS uses it in his 588's with big blowers making about 900hp. I'd go with the 741 and a larger blower.

MTM,

The Apache I was looking at had 525SC's that were upgraded. He was making 625 hp supposedly. We could always call and ask. I believe Falcon built them.

Garry was also building quite a few motors like that and was making 600 hp.

Panther 12-05-2003 07:48 PM

Oh, BTW.

when we were trying to put together a package for the 35 Cigarette, we wanted to try and use a set of 525SC blowers that we knew were available.

Garry felt they would run out of steam on the 502's that were in the boat. He said we would have to spin them up to much to make any power and it would make a lot of additional heat, making detonation a problem. Thats when we scrapped the SC package and the owner got the 500's NA.

I was just kicking the idea around and was looking for others input's.

Back4More 12-06-2003 01:07 AM

We used ISKY cams...but had them ground at 114°
Grind No./Type: RR-275/284 HYDRAULIC ROLLER...RPM-Range: 2500-6400 Valve Lift - INT: .553 EXT: .578 Valve Lash Hot - INT: .000 EXT: .000 ADV Duration - INT: 275° EXT: 284° .050 Duration - INT: 228° EXT: 238° Lobe Center: 112°
Toolroom Gold Springs by them also.
No change on the carbs or timing.
They were dyno'd but I sent the new owner all the paperwork on them so i don't recall @ what rpm they made the 580 at.
Ran 92Oct.
Pulleys were the next size smaller Weiand had...We rebuilt the blowers and used a non Merc input shaft so we could change pulleys.

Do your remember the 42 fountain that had triple 525sc. It had built up motors and innercoolers. The guy told you 100mph

Panther 12-07-2003 01:46 PM

Yeah, he told me they were putting out a little over 600hp I think?

It would have been interesting if Chuck let Brett and I take out his 42 Fountain and see that guy's boat really did 100mph. He challenged us right at the dock because I told him I really didn't think it went 100 mph. Maybe the motors were tweaked even more than he said. He said the only thing he did was install intercoolers. Didn't you hear he changed cams too? BTW, what ever happened to that boat, its gone.

I heard it was fast, but I think 90mph was more realistic. Maybe someone here on the board has a similiar setup?

mtm 12-07-2003 02:25 PM

I talked to the guy that built the motors. I think he told me he donated the boat.
And it had the cam one step smaller then the crane i posted and the innercollers made a huge improvement

Rippem 12-07-2003 05:03 PM

This has been covered...approaching 600 HP MAX . To spin these little blowers fast enough on enough cubes to make more than that won't work. The adibiatic efficiency goes down the toilet. Innercooler or not, that size blower case can only support so much rotor speed (and air thru it). :)

B4M, thanks for the info.
