Camshaft end play????
I am replacing the timing chains in these 540's.
they are 741 roller cams with the cam button that rides against the timing covers. The new timing chains Billet Comp cams #cca-7110. Comes with a new Torrington bearing behind the cam sprocket. The old timing sprocket had the bearing also. When I install the timing cover there is no longer any camshaft end play ( or very little). After inspecting the cam button I notice a little c clip in which when removed gives access to a little torrington bearing and to two thrush washers/shims. Is this where you set the Camshaft end play by changing the thickness of these Washers?? Please respond Gerry |
Set the endplay by bending the timing chain cover. You can use a socket and place it were the button makes contact with it and smack it with a hammer making a recess in the cover. Sometimes different gaskets will make the correct clearance. Check clearance when it is assembled
