HP500 or 525SC
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a HP500 vs 525SC?
Which is the perfered motor? Is a Bravo I sufficient to handle either? |
They're both good engines.
The HP500 will run on 87 octane, the 525SC requires 92 octane. Mark one for the HP500 Some of the HP500's (99' vintage) had valve spring issues, I've never heard of any valve spring issues with 525SC's Mark one for the 525SC I've seen Bravo drives destroyed by lesser power than either of these engine packages, due to improper operation. Generally, Bravo drives will hold up with these packages, with proper operation. jt |

That said I have 2 of the 525's in my boat :D. Also, I believe that the 525sc was hand assembled and blueprinted like the bulldog, 575, 600 and so on, I do not believe that the 500HP, 500efi or the 525efi is blueprinted. |
I have a 525SC in my boat. It requires 92 Octane on the flame arrestor specs. It is a great running engine. With that said, I would prefer a 500HP. The main reason being is that is easier to build more HP out the 500.

i'd say you'd be better off with the hp500. My engien is basically a copy of the 525 and i'm very happy with it. BUT its abotu as fasr as i can push this package and still maintain good reliabilty. If i want to make any more power and i'm tlaking new blower and intercooler.
Almost equal power but one is NA so you have more room to grow with it in terms of later biuld up. If you had the hp500 and wanted more power whipple it and you're talkign 700hp. |
