Only ONE engine in 35ft??
1 Attachment(s)
Hi!
I need input on engine/s and sterndrive/s. The boat is 35ft and the hull looks like a Cigarette 35 Cafe Racer. The weight without engine and sterndrive is about 4500lbs. I have a rebuild Ford 460 engine with 550hp and IF itīs possible I want to use only one engine. My goal is only around 50 knots, what do you think? Is it doable with only one engine and If so what sterndrive? Thanks in advance! /Orkyl |
it's not that it's not doable but the boat is on the cusp of to heavey. the motor would push it but theres not enough torque to get it up.
if you did twin 454 mags it would still be under 60 mph. old hull. Treadwell |
You better put a prop off a tugboat on it or you will not get on plane.
With one engine and only 550 HP you may not even see 50 MPH. The prop would have to have a lot of surface area just to get the boat on plane and that would hurt your top speed. |
The other thing is that your engine would not last very long because in order to keep the boat on plane you would have to run that one engine very hard all the time not just at top speed. And I think you would be at WOT most of the time. I can cruise at 50 at only 3200 RPM.

Ok, copy that!
So, if I go with twin 454 would a pair of Bravo oneīs be a good choice? |
That would work...

If you want only one engine it would have to be a turbine.

twin 454s and bravo would be a good setup. That looks liek an older hull so if teh transom is cut its probably for TRS drives.
if you have a frewshtransaom waiting to be cut go withbravo just make sure whoever doe steh work knows what they are doign if it wa a TRS boat bravo sit closer to ethtransom so it shifts the center of gravity on the hull. |
The hull was stored since new on a marina for 4 years and have never been in water or had any engines.
So if I do some nice upgrade for the 454īs to about 500hp each this old hull will move pretty fast. Perhaps 70Mph with the right props, or? If I go for twins, why not go with style :) |
A big single deisel with a surface drive would work. 50 knots, lots of smoke, and a wicked rooster tail from the surface drive. Then again, twin bigblocks makes a LOT more sense though.
